Arizona Diamondbacks Aggressively Pursuing Yasmany Tomas

Yasmany Tomas is the latest Cuban import to hit the free agent market and the bidding is starting to heat up. According to Fox Sports and MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal the Arizona Diamond backs are the one pursuing most aggressively.

The Mystery Team Ken Rosenthal could be the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs or Miami Marlins all of whom could use some immediate outfield help.

For the Diamondbacks getting the right contract terms will be key. General Manager Dave Stewart is trying to control this year’s payroll number but most importantly trying to avoid long-term cumbersome contracts. A short-term deal with Tomas gives the team flexibility allowing the Diamondbacks to get trade value if the rebuilding plan needs reworking.

Since it appears Tomas is open to a short-term deal the Arizona Diamondbacks could be serious contenders to land the power hitting Cuban this offseason.

If the Arizona Diamondbacks are going to sign Tomas, expect a move before the winter meetings. A deal with Yasmany Tomas will likely make some trades necessary and GM Dave Stewart will need to know what he has to work with prior to the annual swap meet.
