Arizona Coyotes Burned By Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames defeated the Arizona Coyotes 3-0 Saturday night. Arizona is now 6-3 against Pacific Division rivals and 0-2 against Calgary on the year.
Arizona started the game off in one of the worst ways possible. Mikkel Boedker was assessed a four minute high sticking penalty. Fortunately, Arizona was able to kill it off with a rather impressive penalty kill. Calgary was in control of the entire period. They owned the time of possession. It was really Devan Dubnyk who kept his team in the game. The period ended scoreless, and Arizona was badly outshot 12-3.
Arizona came out in the 2nd period looking much better. They brought an offensive zone push but it wasn’t good enough. Shortly after, Calgary scored. T.J. Brodie beat Devan Dubnyk on a two on one opportunity. Arizona responded to the goal by stepping their game up a bit and bringing some offensive zone pressure. They looked better but still couldn’t score. Arizona’s hard work in the offensive zone was eventually rewarded with a power play. They generated some shots but still could not score. The period ended 1-0 but Arizona showed some life that period and actually outshot Calgary 14-5. They absolutely had the momentum heading into the 3rd period.
Unfortunately, the momentum the Coyotes ended the 2nd with, was gone in the 3rd. The Flames opened up the period by scoring a goal. Calgary wasn’t done scoring just yet, though. Jiri Hudler added to the Flames’ 2-0 lead with a power play goal. The Coyotes had no response and could not beat Flames’ goaltender Karri Ramo.
