The Arizona Diamondbacks continued to remake their roster today through trades by trading a once high valued prospect.

The Dbacks prized shortstop prospect will actually head to the Yankees. In return the Detroit Tigers send Left Handed Starter Robbie Ray and Low A-Ball prospect Domingo Leyba To Arizona. Â The Detroit Tigers get back-end starter Shane Green in the process.
The Arizona Diamondbacks get a solid pitching prospect in Ray that was already the center of a blockbuster deal last season. Â Prior to the 2014Â season the Detroit Tigers traded Doug Fister to the Washington Nationals in return for Robbie Ray and two other players. Â Ray was touted as a potential ace with an arm that could contribute immediately at the major league level. Â But he never caught on with the Tigers recording just 1 win and a 8.16 ERA in 9 appearances with the Tigers last year.
A change of scenery and less pressure to produce right away could help Ray regain form in Arizona.
This move was a strategic one for the Diamondbacks. Dave Stewart was able to nab a couple young prospects to fill current and future need by dealing from one of the franchises deepest positions. With Robbie Ray the Diamondbacks get a close to major league ready arm with the potential to become a starter in the front end of the rotation. Â Domino Leyba (18 years old) had a very impressive year in low A-ball but is more of a development project.
With Gregorius gone the Arizona Diamondbacks will likely platoon Chris Owning with the recently tendered veteran middle infielder Cliff Pennington. The 22-year-old Owings was the most productive of the team shortstops hitting .261 with 6 HR in 332 plate appearances.
