What Should The Arizona Cardinals do at Quarterback in 2015?

It’s a bit early to discuss this but after Carson Palmer tore his ACL again this year and Drew Stanton has struggled when he plays tough teams, the Arizona Cardinals need to figure out the future of the quarterback position.

The Cardinals have gotten away with inconsistent play from their offense at times thanks in large part because of an elite defense, but they can only get away with that for so many games. Bruce Arians, Steve Keim and company need to figure out where they stand in the most important position in football.

Here are two ways they can sort this out.

Stick With Palmer

This idea makes a lot of sense considering the fact that the Cardinals just signed him to a three-year, $50 million extension a couple of days before he tore his ACL. This will be a short-term solution because Palmer is 34 (35 in a couple weeks) but with this, you can continue to build your team around the talent you have now and not have to go through the growing pain of a young quarterback.

Of course, all of this hinges on how well Palmer returns from his rehab. This is a type of injury which could leave him as a shell of his former self in the twilight of his career.

Draft A Quarterback

This idea is a big gamble when you think about it. The Cards will have a pick late in the first round and would have to trade up if they want to get the likes of Brett Hundley, Marcus Mariotta or probably even Bryce Petty.

Arizona would have to risk the future on whomever they take and hope that he can become their franchise quarterback. If they make a mistake on this pick, they basically take themselves out of the playoff talk for the next couple years.

This decision also can lead to a huge reward too, however. If they nail this pick, they will have their quarterback for the next several seasons and will be a contender in the NFC for a while. The draftee would also be coached by Arians, which would help with his development of turning into a great quarterback.

The organization can get a quarterback in the free agency market or in the trade market too, but that won’t get them anywhere. These  two ways are their best chance to get a Lombardi trophy in the future.

Until then lets hope Ryan Lindley can pull a Earl Morrall and lead the Cardinals to the promised land.
