After a terrible start to the 2014 season, Hall brought in LaRussa and appointed him Chief Baseball Officer to help right ship.
"“The entire organization is obviously frustrated with the results on the field and we are looking to improve,” Hall said. “Tony brings us a wealth of knowledge, experience and success, and will work closely with Kevin and Kirk in evaluating our current state to determine the future of our baseball operations. He is excited and enthusiastic about the challenge, and we are fortunate to have this Hall of Famer on board and a part of the team."
It would take a few months for LaRussa’s preseance to be felt until he tapped fellow baseball legend and Stewart to act as General Manager.
LaRussa also hired Watson to become the Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations. The two men are said to be equals with Stewart’s focus will be on the big league club while Watson hones in on player development.
La Russa, Stewart and Watson form a unique front office structure where all three men operate as equal to each other. It’s a brain trust whose purpose is to rebuild the Diamondbacks into a World Series contender.
