Senior quarterback Taylor Kelly has been given the nod to start the bowl game over junior Mike Bercovici. Kelly and Bercovici have been in a battle for playing time ever since Bercovici’s late-game heroics in Kelly’s absence due to injury earlier in the season.

Kelly started against the University of Arizona in the final game of the regular season, but proved to be inefficient against the Wildcats offense prompting a switch under center to Bercovici. Bercovici brought the Sun Devils back into the game, but in the end fell just short 42-35.

Kelly has amassed 1,874 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions in nine games, while also rushing for 232 yards and three ground scores. His ability to read the defense on zone options make the Arizona State offense hard to stop as he has a tremendous knack of finding the holes of the opposing defenses and exploiting those weaknesses.
