Arizona Cardinals Ryan Lindley Remains “Next Man Up”

The Arizona Cardinals, as we all know, have taken a big hit on the injury front this season. In fact, head coach Bruce Arians has become so used to losing players that he has come up with the saying, “ Next Man Up.”

Rather than creating excuses and expecting sympathy, with this saying, he expects his other players to take advantage of the opportunities and perform to the best of their abilities in absence of their teammates.

Early Friday, Cardinals fans had a scare as Drew Stanton was said to be out for the year due to his arthroscopic surgery to help clean up the infection in his knee.

However, Arians spoke and denied that Stanton would be out for the rest of the season and actually expects him back next week.

In addition, Arians also added that it is ridiculous to say that Ryan Lindley cost the Cardinals the game last Sunday, and that a lot of other issues went wrong.

With that being said, it has also been confirmed that after just one day of practice, Logan Thomas was quickly stripped of the starting quarterback role as it was given back to Lindley for Sunday ‘s game against the 49ers in San Francisco.

Lindley threw 18 of his 44 passes for216 yards and one interception in Sunday’s meltdown to the Seahawks.

Larry Fitzgerald was asked about his thoughts on the revolving quarterback door.

"“It’s kind of old hat for me”, Fitz said on Christmas morning. “If this was the first time around it might be surprising. But I’ve gone through it multiple times. I kind of just got with the flow and instill as much confidence as I possible can in that person who is throwing the football”, Fitz added, per ArizonaCardinals.com"

The Cardinals faced the 49ers in week 3 earlier this season, the matchup resulted in victory for the Cardinals as they improved to 3-0 for the season. They defeated the 49ers 23-14 in a comeback win and held San Francisco to a scoreless second half.

The difference in this matchup of course, is that this game will be played at Levi Stadium. San Francisco is 3-4 at home this season, while the Cardinals are 4-3 on the road.

The Cardinals look to possibly lock up a division title depending on victory in this game and a Seattle loss against the St. Louis Rams. If it doesn’t fall through, then the Cardinals will be a wildcard team going into the playoffs.

Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday at 2:25 PM MST in Santa Clara.
