Fans looking for some clarity on the status of Drew Stanton are going to have to wait as we inch closer to the Cardinals matchup against the Panthers in Charlotte on Saturday afternoon.
Stanton wasn’t seen on the field during the Cardinals open portion of practice. According to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN, it’s also unknown on whether Stanton practiced during the closed session since an injury wasn’t required to be released by the team.
If Stanton is to play on Saturday, he will have to practice at least one day this week, according to Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians. Unless something happen behind closed doors, Stanton more than likely sat out on Tuesday, so he’ll have Wednesday and Thursday to get on the practice field. Friday will be a walk-through for the team.
The former Michigan State Spartan injured his knee in the Cardinals Week 15 victory of the St. Louis Rams. At first, it was feared that Stanton was lost for the season, but it was later revealed to be a sprain of his MCL. Stanton was treated for an infection in the knee last week which the organization believes was from outside treatment.
Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim remains “hopeful” that Stanton will be under center come Saturday.
"“At this point it’s day-to-day, but we’re hopeful,” Keim said."
If Stanton is unable to go for the third straight week, Ryan Lindley will once again get the start, the seventh of his career. Lindley threw for 316 yards and two scores in Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but he had three costly interceptions.
As a fan of this football team, you have to hope Stanton is ready to go against Carolina. He may be a bit rusty with having more than three weeks off, but he gives you a much better chance to win a playoff game on the road than Lindley does.
