Arizona Coyotes Losing Streak Now At Seven
The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Arizona Coyotes 4-3 in the shootout on Tuesday night. Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead early, Arizona was unable to hold it and fell to the Flyers to lose their seventh straight game.
The first period was an exciting one, both teams were energized from the All-Star break. Arizona struck first, Connor Murphy beat goaltender Ray Emery early in the game to take a 1-0 lead. Martin Erat added to the Coyotes’ lead shortly after the first goal. Emery was pulled from the game after Erat’s goal. The Flyers cut into the Coyotes’ lead with a power play goal mid way through the period. The period ended with Arizona in front 2-1.

The second period was not particularly good for Arizona. The Flyers controlled the puck and momentum of the game for a majority of the period. Mike Smith was forced to make save after save. Arizona was outshot 15 to 29. Philadelphia scored two goals and took the lead 3-2. Only 23 seconds after the Flyers’ third goal, Tobias Rieder was able to score a goal of his own and tied the game at three. It was 3-3 heading into the intermission.
The third period was full of excitement and close plays for both teams. This period was back and forth with scoring chances for both teams. The Flyers had a considerable edge in terms of shots on goal, but Smith absolutely stood on his head too keep the Flyers off the score board. Arizona didn’t have as many chances, but the chances they did have, were of high quality. Flyers’ goaltender Steve Mason had his fair share of good saves as well. Neither team scored the game was headed to overtime.
The overtime period was just as exciting as the rest of the game. There was a lot of action at both ends, both teams went back and forth but neither could score.
