Marshawn Lynch Continues Signature Shtick

We have seen the Marshawn Lynch interviews time-and-time-again where he doesn’t respond to reporter’s questions with answers that seem plausible.

Those are actually the times Lynch actually conducts the interview and doesn’t just skip out on the media. In fact, he was fined $50,000 in November for violating NFL Media Policy.

The NFL made it a case that the NFL-leader in rushing touchdowns in 2014 was at Super Bowl Media Day on Tuesday by threatening to fine him a whopping $500,000 if he didn’t attend. Lynch attended and spoke for the five minute minimum, but the words he spoke at Media Day were not exactly what reporters were hoping for.

Lynch’s response to each question directed his way was: “I’m only here so I don’t get fined.”

On Wednesday, the NFL announced that the running back will not be fined for his 29 responses of “I’m only here so I don’t get fined.”

Adam Schefter and Darren Rovel discussed  on Wednesday how Lynch may not be completely off the hook due to his wardrobe choice for Media Day. The league is currently looking into whether or not the hat that Lynch wore, which supported the logo of his brand “Beast Mode”, was allowed at the event.

"If the NFL rules that Lynch used media day to promote a brand that was not approved by the league, he could face a significant fine."

Lynch continued his antics on Wednesday as well on day two of Super Bowl week when he responded to reporters with a new answer: “You know why I am here.”

Lynch’s teammates all seemed to stick up for him in their Media Day interviews however. Here are a couple of quotes from Terry Blount’s article on Marshawn Lynch:

"“He is a lot smarter than what people think,” Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin said. “He is very, very wise.”"

"“Marshawn is an extraordinary character,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. “He is the most giving, the most loyal and one of the great teammates that you can want because of the way he takes care and looks after people. He’s got a remarkable sense about that. His sense for loyalty runs extraordinarily deep and his teammates know that.”"

Although it seems like Lynch simply won’t change the way he conducts himself in interviews, his teammates and coach respect the man. At the end of his career it will come down to how well he played on the field and how well he was respected in the locker room and he’s doing a great job in both of those aspects.
