The Suns were rumored to be asking about Greg Monroe before the season but they couldn’t pull off a deal. Instead of negotiating a long-term deal with the Pistons, Greg Monroe chose to sign a one-year qualifying offer that will make him a free agent following the season.
Ever since then the Pistons big man has been playing like he has something to prove while averaging a double-double this season.

Monroe is exactly what the Suns need right now. He can score on anybody down low and is a solid rebounder on both ends of the floor. He is also a competent defender and with his well-rounded game could be the center the Suns have been looking for since the departure of Amar’e Stoudemire.
It was rumored there was mutual interest between Monroe and the Suns this offseason so it is possible talks could start again considering the Suns need down low.
Here is a possible trade proposal via the NBA Trade Machine:
Suns Get:
- Greg Monroe
- Kyle Singler
Pistons Get:
- Goran Dragic
- Mile Plumlee
For Detroit, Stan Van Gundy gets the value he has been seeking for Greg Monroe rather than just letting him walk at the end of the season.
For the Suns, They get the big man they need in Greg Monroe and a little extra scoring off the bench in Kyle Singler. Because of the Bird Rule, Greg Monroe will have to approve any deal between the two teams so a sign and trade might be necessary to get this deal done.
