Trade Deadline: Madness at Buzzer

It was absolute mayhem in the last 10 minutes before the NBA Trade Deadline today with multiple deals going down with players and picks being shipped all across the country. As Ron Burgandy would say, “That escalated quickly.”

The Phoenix Suns front office were among the most busy in the league with multiple players being sent in different directions leaving many fans with questions of who was even on the roster any more.

More from Heat Waved

First, Phoenix moved brothers Goran Dragic and Zoran Dragic to the Miami Heat in exchange for Danny Granger, Justin Hamilton, and two first-round picks.

Then the Suns moved Isaiah Thomas, Miles Plumlee, Tyler Ennis, and the first-round pick previously owned by the Lakers to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for 23-year-old point guard Brandon Knight, John Salmons from New Orleans, and a first-round pick and Marcus Thornton from Boston in part of a four-team trade.

All-in-all the Suns were able to move Dragic, who would be leaving in free agency after this season, for two first round picks and Granger who will only take up $2.1 million next year, and package bench players for a budding star in the league, two seasoned veterans, and an additional first round pick.

Additionally, the acquisition of Knight was brilliant. has put up outstanding numbers for the Bucks this year as he is averaging 17.8 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.3 rebounds. The former Kentucky Wildcat will join his fellow alum Eric Bledsoe in the back court for Phoenix.

Thomas had been averaging 15.2 points and 3.7 assists while coming off the bench. Plumlee had taken a backseat role with the Suns this year with Alex Len taking over the starting gig. Plumlee was only putting up 4.3 points and 5.1 boards in just under 19 minutes per game this year.

The Suns made out well considering they had not made any trade deadline moves prior to 12:45 PM MST (1 PM MST deadline).

As of now, the Suns roster stands as such:

PG- Brandon Knight

SG- Eric Bledsoe

SF- P.J. Tucker

PF- Markieff Morris

C- Alex Len

Bench- Marcus Morris, Gerald Green, Brandan Wright, Marcus Thornton, Danny Granger, John Salmons, Archie Goodwin/TJ Warren.
