Arizona Coyotes AHL Report – 3/23/15

The Arizona Coyotes AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates, are in the midst of a stretch run that has them fighting to make it into the playoffs. With several skaters that have taken the ice for Arizona at some point this season, the Pirates will be looking to make run at the Calder Cup.

This past week, the Pirates hosted the Hershey Bears for two games in Maine and then visited New Hampshire to take on the Manchester Monarchs. While they were unable to gain a victory, Portland (35-23-5-1) was still able to salvage a couple of points.

On Friday, Portland fell to Hershey in a 3-2 overtime loss. Alexandre Bolduc scored the two goals for the Pirates and Jordan Martinook assisted on both of them. Martinook has played eight games with the Coyotes this season, while Bolduc has played three games with the Coyotes.

Mike McKenna, who has appeared in one game for Arizona, made 21 saves.

On Saturday, Portland took another overtime loss at the hands of Hershey, this time 4-3. Brendan Shinnimin scored two goals for the Pirates. Jordan Szwarz had two assists and Lucas Lessio added an assist as well. Shinnimin has played 12 games for the Coyotes and Lessio has played 26 games for the Coyotes.

On Sunday, Portland was unable to pick up a victory against Manchester as they were defeated 3-1. Martinook scored the only goal for the Pirates with Bolduc and Philip Samuelsson picking up assists. David Leggio had 27 saves. Samuelsson has played in four games for the Coyotes this season.

Overall this weekend, Martinook led all Pirates with 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists), Bolduc had three points (2 goals, 1 assist), and Shinnimin had two points (two goals). Patrick McNeill added with a goal and one assist this past weekend.

Portland is currently in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, where the top eight teams will make the postseason. This upcoming week the Portland Pirates will be hosting the St. John’s IceCaps for two games on Wednesday and Friday.

On Saturday, the Pirates will host the Providence Bruins.
