There are just 16 teams remaining in the initial field of 68 teams that are still vying for the 2015 Division I Men’s Basketball Championship and the Arizona Wildcats are one of the front-runners to do just that.

On Thursday, March 26 the No. 2 seed Arizona Wildcats will take on the No. 6 seed Xavier Muskateers in the West region semifinals. The winner of this matchup will play either the No. 1 seed Wisconsin Badgers or the No. 4 North Carolina Tar Heels in the West final.

Arizona won their last 11 games before the tournament began and have continued their success in the first two tournament games.

The Wildcats (33-3) kicked things off in the Round of 64 against the No. 15 Texas Southern Tigers and won by a wide margin of 93-72. It was only the fourth time that Arizona had allowed at least 70 points in a game this season, so defense was the primary focus to work on heading into their second round matchup against Ohio State.

The No. 10 Ohio State Buckeyes kept it close in the first half as they managed to only allow the Wildcats to take a 26-25 lead into the locker rooms. Gabe York came off the bench and hit five three-pointers and carried the Wildcats to a great second half in which they outscored Ohio State 47-33 for a 73-58 victory.

Xavier (23-13) took care of business in their first two games of the tournament as well to earn a shot at upsetting Arizona. The Muskateers defeated No. 11 Ole Miss in the first round 76-57 and continued their strong offensive play against No. 14 Georgia State and defeated the Panthers 75-67.
