Heat Waved Writer of the Week: Eli Burk
We are bringing back the “Writer of the Week” Award here at Heat Waved to help you, our audience, connect better with our staff writers.
We will be looking at number of posts per week, number of page views, how well our staff writer did with pushing out content onto our social media platforms, as well as conversing with our readers.
Without further ado, I would like to congratulate Eli Burk as Heat Waved’s Writer of the Week for the week of March 23-March 30.
Brendan Kennealy: “Where did you first draw your love for sports from?”
Eli Burk: “I think my love for sports came from my father. He sat me down to watch Shaquille O’Neal’s first game as a Laker and he is the guy I always go to when I need to converse about sports. I owe to my father for giving me my love of sports.”
BK: “Have you always been interested in writing about sports?”
EB: “Actually no. I came to the desert hoping to be in sports broadcasting. I grew up listening to Chick Hern and Vin Scully call games and thought it was the coolest job in the world. But once I decided to pursue sports management, I thought why not continue being in sports journalism by writing about it.”
BK: “What are your end goals for your career?
EB: “I’d love to end up being a part of a coaching staff at any level coaching basketball. It’s the sport I grew up playing and it’s something I always know I will love. But I would not single out being in the sports journalism world.”
BK: “What has been your favorite article for Heat Waved thus far?”
EB: “I think being able to take out my frustration on Herb Sendek via writing was very fun.”

BK: “April Fools Day is tomorrow… What is the best prank you’ve ever pulled on someone?”
EB: “I put a fake spider in one girl’s bed who lived on my floor last year in the dorms. Needless to say she was not very happy with what me and my roommate thought was a joke.”
