Arizona Coyotes AHL Report- 4/6/15
This past week was a tough one for the Arizona Coyotes AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates. While still battling for playoff position in the Eastern Conference, the Pirates dropped two games. This upcoming week will feature four more pivotal games as Portland’s post seasons aspirations only grow more realistic by the day.
As stated before, the Pirates roster is full of future and former Coyotes. Portland will also be aided by the return of Brandon Gormley, who was with the Coyotes for an extended period of time. Portland (37-25-6-1) was able to gain one point this past week and still sits in 8th place.

On Friday, Portland was able to salvage a point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Manchester Monarchs on home ice. Brendan Shinnimin scored two goals for the Pirates while Philip Samuelsson netted the other. Defenseman Patrick McNeill continued his offensive play with two assists. Lucas Lessio and Dylan Reese each added an assist of their own.
On Saturday, the Pirates dropped two points to the team that is chasing them for the final spot in the playoffs, the Springfield Falcons. In a 5-2 defeat, Lucas Lessio was able to score and Shinnimin added to his productive week with an assist.

In total, the Pirates were led by Shinnimin, who three points, Lessio, who had two points, and McNeill, who had two points. Mike McKenna was in goal for both losses. With Springfield feverishly chasing Portland, the next four games will be important.
On Tuesday, the Pirates will play host to the Worcester Sharks. On Friday, they’ll head to Manchester to take on the Monarchs. Finally, on Saturday and Sunday they’ll return home to take on the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Penguins.
