Paul Goldschmidt:

April 17, 2015; San Francisco, CA, USA; Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt (44) hits a RBI-single to score right fielder Ender Inciarte (5, not pictured) against San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey (28, left) during the third inning at AT&T Park. Goldschmidt has picked up where he left off at last year before getting injured. The first basemen currently ranks tied for second place in the MLB in home runs, five, third in the MLB in RBIs, 15, and third in the MLB in runs scored, 12.

He is the heart-and-soul of the lineup and everything the offense does well revolves solely around his bat. Goldschmidt has never faced Tuesday’s starter Martinez, but has great numbers against Texas’ starter on Wednesday.

Yovani Gallardo will get the nod on Wednesday for the Rangers and Goldschmidt is smiling from ear-to-ear due to this. Goldschmidt is 5-for-7 in his career against Gallardo. He also adds two walks to his total against the right-handed pitcher, good enough for a .714/.778/.857 slash line. Not too shabby.
