Cardinals Should Draft Todd Gurley with 24th Pick

Although the Cardinals have an abundance of running backs, no one really shines or has the starting spot 100 percent as of now.

Andre Ellington is a great runner but did not get as many chances to shine because of the offenses passing scheme. He had 660 rushing yards last year with three touchdowns, but didn’t give the team exactly what they expected out of him.

Stepfan Taylor, in my opinion, is a great back-up to Ellington or a future running back the Cardinals decide to pick in this year’s draft, due to his tremendous football IQ.

At the beginning of the college football season last year, everyone expected Georgia running back Todd Gurley to be a top-five pick. But, due to a suspension for receiving money for signing memorabilia most NFL draft experts projected him to drop significantly.

As of late, experts project him to be a late first-round or early second-round pick. Gurley would be a great 24th overall pick in the first round for Arizona as he fits their offensive scheme.

Gurley is a short-and-stocky back at 6’1″ and 222 pounds. He is a tough runner up the middle. He can also block very well for a running back.

Even though the defense is in need of a pass-rushing line backer, it would be a smart idea to take a running back in Gurley or Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon.

Most people project Gordon to go to the Houston Texans with the 16th pick, but if Gurley is taken, expect Gordon to be picked up by Arizona.

The Arizona offense should be strong this season because of their receiving core, but are in dire need of a running back. Ellington, Taylor and Arizona State alum Marion Grice are not enough to suit the needs of head coach Bruce Arians and offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin.

Expect Gurley to be taken with the 24th pick.
