Diamondbacks-0 Dodgers-8

This series got out to a bad start for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks in a rout, 8-0. A 5-run second inning against Rubby De La Rosa put the D-Backs in a big hole early and the team was never able to regain momentum.

The second inning featured a grand slam Joc Pederson (5) and a solo home run from Justin Turner (2). Andre Ethier (4) added to the score with a solo home run in the sixth. The final two runs came off a Scott Van Slyke single in the 8th.

The Diamondbacks had an opportunity to get back in the game in the sixth when Danny Dorn and A.J. Pollock led off the inning with back-to-back singles. After a strike out by Chris Owings and fly out to center by Paul Goldschmidt, a walk loaded the bases before David Peralta struck out ending the inning.

Carlos Frias (2-0) pitched 5 1/3 innings of shutout ball, only allowing four hits and one walk in the appearance. Rubby De La Rosa (2-2) allowed three hits and two walks, for five earned runs in 5 inning appearance.

Diamondbacks-4 Dodgers-6

The Diamondbacks start fast but could not battle back late. In a back and forth game, the Diamondbacks fall late 6-4 to the Dodgers, giving them the series win.

Ender Inciarte lead off the game with a double, then Paul Goldschmidt (6) happened, giving the D-Backs a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The Dodgers came back in the bottom half of the first with a Justin Turner (3) home run and a Adrian Gonzalez double to drive in a run.  The Diamondbacks comeback with a run in the second on an Ender Inciarte single that drives in Jordan Pacheco.

In the bottom of the third Scott Van Slyke singled to drive in Justin Turner, tying the game. Aaron Hill (1) helps the Diamondbacks retake the lead with a homer run in the top of the fourth. Los Angeles tied the game in the seventh off a Joc Pederson (6) solo home run, then Howie Kendrick drove in a run off Andrew Chafin to retake the lead. The Dodgers added a run in the eighth off a Jimmy Rollins single.

The late two-run deficit was too much for the team to overcome, allowing the Dodgers to clinch the series win.

Diamondbacks’ starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson and Dodgers’ starting pitcher Scott Baker received no-decisions. Juan Nicasio (1-1) got his first win of the season and Chris Hatcher (2) was credited with the save; Evan Marshall (0-1) was given the loss for the D-Backs.

Diamondbacks- 0 Dodgers- 1

Neither the Diamondbacks or Dodgers could get a run across the plate, until the Dodgers hit a walk-off in the 13th.

It was the 13th inning before a run crossed the plate, but sadly that was in the form of a Yasmani Grandal home run. The Diamondbacks had their opportunities to score, a lead off double by Paul Goldschmidt in the 10th lead to nothing. The Diamondbacks’ greatest chance came in the 13th, when Jordan Pacheco tried to steal home on a wild pitch, but was thrown out to end the inning.

There was little offense in the game but the pitching was near perfect.

Both starting pitchers, the Arizona’s Chase Anderson and Los Angeles’ Brett Anderson, received no decisions in the Dodgers’ win.  Dodgers’ reliever, J.P. Howell (1-1), was awarded his first win of the year, while D-Backs’ Evan Marshall (0-2) received the loss.
