Rodney Gunter (DT, Delaware State) – 4th round, 116th overall

With the departures of Dan Williams and Darnell Dockett during the offseason, adding depth in the middle of the defensive line was a need for the Cards in this draft. They addressed that need by moving up seven spots in order to grab Gunter.

Unknown by most fans, Gunter was named a second-team All-MEAC in 2012 and this season and a first-team member back in 2013. New to the sport, Gunter played only one year of football in high school before going to Delaware State.

The Cardinals have had a lot of success with small school players in recent years, most notably taking receiver John Brown during last year’s draft. Gunter probably won’t be able to produce right away like Brown did in 2014, but given the time, he could be a nice piece on the defensive line down the road.
