It was announced earlier on Tuesday by the Arizona Organizing Committee and the College Football Playoff Committee that the fan-centered activities during the week leading up to next year’s College Football National Championship will take place in the heart of Downtown Phoenix.

The activities going on leading up to the game on January 11, 2016 will be similar to the activities in Phoenix in February of 2015 for Super Bowl XLIX.

The events will take place from Friday, January 8 through Sunday, January 10 with the game on the ensuing Monday evening in Glendale at University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals.

Mayor of Phoenix, Greg Stanton, said this regarding the event coming to Phoenix…

"“The College Football Playoff events will turn downtown Phoenix into the nation’s sports epicenter. Much like Super Bowl Central, these events will provide both local and visiting fans an amazing opportunity to be part of college football’s biggest game, while delivering direct economic benefits to local businesses.”"

The Executive Director of the College Football Playoff, Bill Hancock, also had a few words of praise regarding Phoenix’s ability to host the festivities…

"“After several site visits to the Valley of the Sun, our staff ultimately felt that downtown Phoenix would serve as a solid foundation for us to build on for the 2016 national championship game. We are looking forward to creating a central hub of college football excitement for the entire community.”"

The winners of the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl on December 31, 2015 will meet up for the second annual College Football Championship Game. Click here for more information on the National Championship game.

It’s a good time to be a sports fan in the Phoenix Valley, after just having the Super Bowl three months back, the College Football Championship early in 2016, and then the NCAA Final Four coming to Glendale in the spring of 2017.
