The 12th ranked Sun Devils (30-18) fell to New Mexico (28-23) Tuesday night, 9-6. The game occurred three hours prior to scheduled because of weather, and featured a 45-minute delay because of lightning in the 4th inning.

The 3-1 lead after the first inning for the Lobos was extended to a 9-3 lead by the end of the 8th. The Sun Devils tried to rally in the 9th with three runs, but were unable to overcome the deficit.

ASU starting pitcher Ryan Hingst (3-3) only went one inning, giving up four hits and four runs, in the loss. The Sun Devil bullpen allowed 5 runs through the next 7 innings, including two runs given up in the 8th by Hever Bueno. The scariest moment in the game came when ASU pitcher Eder Erives was struck in the face by a line drive. According to the ASU Baseball twitter account, Erives was conscious and is cleared to return back to Tempe with the team.

For New Mexico, starting pitcher Victor Sanchez (1-2) was credited with the win after going 4 innings giving up two hits and one unearned run. Jake Cole, who pitcher the 9th for the Lobos, gave up 5 hits with 3 runs, as the Sun Devils tried to comeback.

The Sun Devil bats were not alive Tuesday night, but shortstop Colby Woodmansee and centerfielder Johnny Sewald both had two RBIs in the loss. For the Lobos Sam Haggerty, Aaron Siple, and Jack Zoellner had 2 RBIs as the New Mexico bats were hot.

Arizona State will try and get back on the winning track on Thursday as they start a 3-game series against Washington State.
