Arizona State and University of Arizona Softball Preview

The Arizona State Sun Devils and Arizona Wildcats will be playing in the NCAA Softball regional this weekend. The 24th ranked Sun Devils will be in Baton Rouge to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Arizona, ranked 12th nationally, will play host Friday as St Johns makes the trip to Tucson.

The Baton Rouge field of teams will include host team LSU, Nebraska, and Texas southern as well as the Sun devils. The Tucson regional will include Arizona st johns Minnesota and New Mexico State.

Arizona State is making their 11th consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament The Sun Devils are coming off of a series win against UCLA and are using the momentum to take them into the tournament.

The big bat of Amber Freeman leads the Sun Devils into their 27th overall tournament appearance. Freeman is batting a scorching .438 with 14 homers and 48 RBI’s. Freeman was a finalist for he USA Softball National Player of the Year. Nine players brought PAC-12 honors back to Tempe this year.

The Wildcats will be taking the field with the recently named PAC-12 Defensive Player of the Year Hallie Wilson. Seniors Kellie Fox and Chelsea Goodacre and Wilson were named to PAC-12 first team. In all nine Wildcats were given PAC-12 honors.

ASU will play the Cornhuskers at 1:30 Arizona time. The Wildcats will be facing the aggies in the last game of the night in Tucson at 7:00.

If both teams are able to advance there is a chance they could meet in the Super Regional in Tucson for a best of three series that is sure to be full of excitement.
