Arizona State Adds 4-Star DE JUCO Transfer
Arizona State has added another big-time commit and this time it’s a local JUCO transfer.
Christian Hill, Glendale Community College, had never played organized football until last season, but now he is a top-10 JUCO prospect for the class of 2016.
Hill had also received scholarship offers from Arizona, Oregon State, Washington State, Oregon, Purdue, San Diego State, Louisville, and Colorado State, but chose Arizona State instead.
The 6’6″, 250-pound defensive end has quite the story, Jason Jewell explains…
"Hill has an interesting story. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, he did not play football in high school. he joined the Air Force out of high school and served four years of active duty and is still in the reserves. He played his first year of organized football in 2014 for Glendale CC. He registered 18 tackles and 8 sacks as a freshman en route to all-conference honors."
Jewell also breaks down Hill’s skill set…
"So the film out there on Hill is his first year playing organized football, ever. That is impressive. On tape you see a long, athletic player that can really run. There are times on film when he chases down quarterbacks from behind. Kids this big don’t typically run this fast. The raw tools are there. The size and frame are there, that is why he is being so heavily recruited. The upside on Hill is huge! Typically when a player hasn’t played, they are tentative, Hill is not. He gets after it.Naturally with his lack of experience, he is raw. He needs work on his fundamentals. But the more reps he gets, the better he will be. Which is scary because Hill’s freshman film is pretty darn good."
And finally Jewell finishes with his ideas of what Hill can bring to the table for Coach Todd Graham and the Arizona State program…
"At the very least, Hill can come in and help a program rush the passer. But if he develops during his sophomore year in junior college, the sky is the limit. He has the size to be an every down DE but what could be intriguing is he has the speed and range to drop into coverage."
