1996: Steve Nash (Santa Clara), 1st round, 15th overall

The best draft pick in Suns history (at least up to this point) has been none other than the 6’3″ point guard from Santa Clara University, Steve Nash.

Nash was a backup (to Jason Kidd and Kevin Johnson, so no hard feelings there) his rookie year and was traded to Dallas after his sophomore season. He would go on to spend six seasons with the Mavericks before returning to the Suns via free agency.

Nash, Shawn Marion, and Amaré Stoudemire would help lead the Suns to 120-point performances night-in and night-out in the mid-2000’s. Nash put on an absolute show with terrific passing and clutch shooting.

Nash won an MVP award and was named to the First Team All-NBA three times in his career.
