Five hours and 49 minutes. That’s how long it took for the Milwaukee Brewers to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday in a 17-inning marathon resulting in a 7-6 Milwaukee victory.

The Diamondbacks’ bats had it going early with a first inning home run by Paul Goldschmidt and then an additional three runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead on the National League’s worst team.

The two teams swapped a run apiece to shift the score to 5-1 Arizona before the Milwaukee bats awoke.

Over the course of the fourth to the sixth innings Milwaukee washed away the Arizona lead and even jumped out to a 6-5 lead of their own. Mark Trumbo would have none of it however.

Trumbo hit a Trum-bomb in the eighth inning to tie the game at 6-6. Little did we know at the time that it would be the only run for a nine inning stretch.

J.C. Ramirez, Addison Reed, Daniel Hudson, Andrew Chafin, and Brad Ziegler pitched six scoreless innings for the Diamondbacks before handing the reins over to Vidal Nuño.

Nuño came into the game in the bottom of the 12th inning and mowed down the Brewers hitters for five consecutive innings. He tallied six strikeouts while allowing just two base hits, but the second base hit was a killer…

Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado, who finished the day 4-for-6 with three runs and a pair of RBIs, took Nuño deep to capture the win for the Brewers.

Brewers starter Matt Garza came into relief for Milwaukee and pitched the final five innings and received the win for his efforts, raising his 2015 mark to 3-7.

Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 from the dish and also added four walks to reach base a grand total of seven times in the game, tying a franchise record.

Arizona will return home to Phoenix to take on the Atlanta Braves on Monday night.
