NBA Draft Profile: Kelly Oubre

There is a lot of wiggle room for the Phoenix Suns when it comes time for the NBA Draft and a potential prospect that could land in their laps is Kelly Oubre from Kansas.

Oubre is ranked 10th overall by DraftExpress behind Arizona Wildcat Stanley Johnson and ahead of Texas Longhorn Myles Turner.

Oubre stands at 6’7″, but has a 7’2″ wing-span and a 37-inch vertical. He also came to the NBA Draft Combine in terrific shape to as he had just 5.7 percent body fat.

His size and length would be a beautiful addition to the Suns and would provide help to P.J. Tucker and T.J. Warren on the wing.

NBADraft.net has Oubre as the 17th overall pick in the NBA Draft (Suns sit at 13th overall). They also have Oubre as a 93 overall prospect with key dings on his strength, jump shot, NBA readiness, ball handling, and passing. He excels at athleticism, size, and has an extremely high potential.

Oubre won’t turn 20 until December as well after just playing one season at Kansas. In his freshman year he averaged 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Jayhawks in just 21.0 minutes per game. His mid-range shot was key to him getting on the scoreboard as he made 41 percent of his two-point shot attempts.

The league is buzzing about the potential surrounding Oubre and the Suns may be a perfect fit for the athletic small forward as he would not have to start in the NBA right out of the gates.

Obviously his slender body type is not ideal for the NBA, but the size will come in due time.  He stands tall defensively and can score on the offensive side of the ball. Oubre can add great depth to a ball club and has a high ceiling once he receives some NBA coaching instruction.

Whoever ends up selecting Oubre on draft day will be selecting a gem.
