James Shields has yet to lose a game this season. He is 7-0 with a 3.59 ERA in 87 2/3 innings pitched this season.
He leads the Padres’ pitching staff in ERA, wins, strikeouts, WHIP and innings pitched. Shields has picked up 104 strikeouts and a 1.22 WHIP.
Despite the record, the Padres’ right-hander has not won a game since June 3 in an outing against the New York Mets.
In his last start against the D-backs back on May 8, Shields picked up the win after throwing six innings. But, the D-backs’ hitters really got to him. He gave up five earned runs including four home runs during the course of the game.
So with the combination of the history between Shields and the D-backs’ offense mixed with Shield’s success overall this season, it’ll be interesting to see who fairs better once it’s all said-and-done. It’ll definitely be a fun one to watch.
