Game 1:

The D-Backs wasted no time getting started in the series opener. Paul Goldschmidt grounded out in the first inning but A.J. Pollock scored in the process, giving Goldschmidt his 55th RBI of the season.

Arizona did the rest of their damage in the third inning. Aaron Hill and Wellington Castillo hit back-to-back RBI doubles to expand the Diamondback lead to 3-0. Nick Ahmed immediately followed up with an RBI single to tack on another run before the inning was over.

Rubby De La Rosa tossed seven strong innings and recording six strikeouts in the process. San Diego would grab a run in the fifth and eighth inning but Ziegler added the finishing touches for a Diamondback victory.

Final score: D-Backs 4, Padres 2
