Game 3:
Arizona would bounce back on Father’s Day in the series finale. The Diamondbacks only scored in one inning of this game but it was a big inning and it would prove to be all the support that Jeremy Hellickson would need.
In the second inning, the D-Backs were able to score seven runs. Two of those runs were scored on errors by the Padres and another run came courtesy of Hellickson getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The other four runs driven in came from the bat of A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt. Pollock slapped a two run single to left center and Goldschmidt would later follow up with a two run single of his own. When the second inning was all said and done, Arizona was up 7-0.
San Diego scored a run in the fifth off a Brett Wallace double and a run in the eighth from a Matt Kemp sacrifice fly but the hole was just too big for the Padres to climb out of. Hellickson went six innings, struck out seven batters and earned his fifth win of the year.
Andrew Chafin finished the game for the D-Backs by posting a clean three innings with no runs given up and only allowing two hits.
Final score: D-Backs 7, Padres 2
