Thursday:
Diamondbacks 4, Rockies 6
Both teams’ bats did not awake until the sixth inning, but in a back and forth game the Diamondbacks comeback fell short.
Arizona scored the first run in the sixth, when Welington Castillo singled in AJ Pollock. The Rockies came back with their own run in the sixth off a Nolan Arenado (20) home run. The Diamondbacks retook the lead in the seventh, as Pollock doubled to score Nick Ahmed.
In the eighth the Rockies exploded for five runs. Troy Tulowitzki (8) homered, followed by a Ben Paulsen ground out that scored Charlie Blackmon. Wilin Rosario singled in Arenado, to put the Rockies up by two. The Rockies got two more runs in the eighth when Aaron Hill missed a ground ball, scoring two off the error.
The Diamondbacks tried to come back in the ninth, again facing John Axford. Danny Dorn grounded out to score Cliff Pennington, and then Paul Goldschmidt hit a sac fly that scored Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Rockies’ Jorge De La Rosa (4-3) went five innings, allowing four hits and one run, was given a no-decision. Justin Miller (1-0) went one inning, giving up nothing and getting the win. John Axford (13) got the save, though he allowed two runs in the ninth.
For the Diamondbacks Rubby De La Rosa (6-3) went seven innings allowing five hits and one run, but received a no-decision. Daniel Hudson (2-3) received the loss and got a blown save as well. This was for his two-thirds inning of work, where he allowed two hits and five runs (only three were earned).
