Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt will man first base in the 2015 All-Star Game after leading all National League 1B in voting. This will be Goldschmidt’s third MLB All-Star game in just his fifth season at the major league level.

On the year Goldschmidt carries a slash line of .349/.466/.623 with an OPS of 1.090. He ranks second in the entire MLB in each of those four categories.

On top of his eye-popping slash line, Goldschmidt has also smacked 20 home runs (9th in the MLB), knocked in 67 RBIs (2nd in the MLB), has 103 base hits (4th in MLB), scored 58 runs (5th in MLB), has stolen 15 bags (12th in MLB), and has picked up 66 walks (1st in MLB).

All-in-all, Goldschmidt isn’t worthy of just the starting first baseman nod at the All-Star Game, but also a serious consideration for the National League Most Valuable Player award when the end of the season rolls around.

In an interview with the Arizona Central, Goldschmidt said…

"“It’s been a good start for me individually, but there is a lot of the season to go. I’ll just try to keep preparing to go out there and play well. As a team, we’ve been up and down, but we’ve been getting better every day. Hopefully, we can continue to get better and make a run, whether it’s the wild card or the division, any way to get into the playoffs.”"

The debate for NL MVP will have its time and place, but for now let the Diamondbacks fans rejoice that their franchise’s golden boy will be recognized at the All-Star Game in Cincinnati.
