Game 2:
The Rockies were able to jump out in front again in the second game of this series. This time Colorado did their damage right away in the first inning. Charlie Blackmon hit a lead-off homer to start and Wilin Rosario followed later in the inning with a two run double.
Arizona had to answer after the Rockies plated three in their first at-bats and the Diamondbacks would do just that. In the bottom half of the first, Paul Goldschmidt would jump start the offense with his 18th double of the season and score Peralta in the process as well. Two batters later, Goldschmidt would score courtesy of a Mike Lamb triple to right field.
Through only one inning of play, the score stood at 3-2 in favor of the Rockies. Both teams would go scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Arizona was able to provide the equalizer. With two runners on, Cliff Pennington singled to right and tie the game at 3.
The Diamondbacks had a golden opportunity to win in the bottom of the ninth loading the bases with only one out but Tomas struck out and Lamb would ground out to second base to send this one to extra innings. The Rockies went down in the top half of the 10th but the D-Backs would provide the heroics in the bottom half.
Welington Castillo led off with a double which was immediately followed by a Chris Owings single that advanced Castillo to third base. Pennington stepped to the plate with a runner on third and no outs. Pennington just had to hit a ball to the outfield to seal the victory. He did precisely that by launching a fly ball to left field.
Castillo tagged on the fly ball and scored the winning run. Pennington delivered and gave Arizona a reason to celebrate the 4th a little early.
Final score: D-Backs 4, Rockies 3
