Diamondbacks Start Second Half Against Giants
The Diamondbacks are hosting the Giants for a three game series in Phoenix this weekend. After going 42-45 in the first half of the season the Dbacks are looking to rebound and improve on a season which saw the dbacks briefly hit the .500 mark before falling back below it. Here we look at the matchups for the weekend.
Friday July 17th
The Giants waited for Matt Cain to come back after missing most of the first half of the season with forearm tightness. Cain is hoping to continue success after his last outing where he struck out seven Mets and pitched six scoreless innings. Cain is 8-4 at chase field in his career.
The Diamondbacks will have Robbie Ray taking the mound against the Giants. More good news for the Dbacks is that after over a month Ender Inciarte is set to return to the lineup. Ray has gone 3-4 with a 2.16 ERA in eight games this season after being called up in May.

Saturday July 18th
Peavy has done well after coming off of the disabled list allowing just three runs in 13 1/3 innings. Peavy struggled earlier in the season against the Dbacks allowing four runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. Peavey is 0-4 with a 4.71 ERA.
Batters by the name of Goldschmidt and Pollock are batting .500 against Peavy. The Dbacks will be depending on those bats as well as Chase Anderson to try and win the second game of this series. Anderson is going into Saturdays matchup with a 4-3 record and a 3.91 ERA.
Sunday July 19th
Madison Bumgarner v. Patrick Corbin
Bumgarner is returning to the mound Sunday after pitching in the All-Star game. Bumgarner has struggled a bit on the road going 5-3 with a 4.33 ERA as opposed to a 2.55 ERA in ten outings in San Francisco.
Corbin will be starting just his third game since coming back after a having Tommy John surgery. Corbin showed positive improvement retiring 12 out of the first 13 batters he faced before allowing four runs off of four hits including three homers to the Mets.
No question the Diamondbacks will have to improve their play over the second half of the season if they even want a chance to compete for a playoff spot. It will be interesting to see what Chip Hale has in store when it comes to the outfield situation. Having Tomas, Inciarte, Pollock, and Peralta all in the lineup will give the Dbacks several talented options to roll with in the second half.
