Phelps has been an ‘okay’ type of pitcher for the Marlins this season. He owns a 4-5 record and a 3.86 ERA in 88 2/3 innings pitches.
Over his last seven games, he is 2-3 with a 4.41 ERA. In his last outing back on July 10, he was handed the loss after going six innings and allowing the games’ only run in a 1-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.
A lack of run support has really affected Phelps during the season. Prior to his July 10 loss, he has two consecutive no decisions and another loss to the Reds. That all followed two consecutive victories on June 11 and June 16.
De La Rosa continues to work at lowering his 5.06 ERA. He is 6-5 this season and his 99 strike outs leads the D-backs pitching staff.
De La Rosa hasn’t won a game since picking up two consecutive victories on June 14 and June 19. Prior to that, he hadn’t won a game since May 12.
In his last outing against the Mets on July 12, De La Rosa lasted just 3 2/3 innings after giving up four runs on eight hits. The D-backs went on to lose the game 5-3.
