Game 1:

Robbie Ray took the mound in the series opener for the D-Backs while Matt Cain got the call for the defending World Champions. Arizona would pounce on their very first opportunity in the 1st inning when All Star Paul Goldschmidt hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score AJ Pollock (also an All Star).

The Giants would respond right away in the second. Brandon Crawford cranked a double in the gap to score Hunter Pence from second base to tie the score at 1.

The D-Backs would grab the momentum back in the third inning. David Peralta hammered a triple to center field and brought home AJ Pollock again in the process. Following Peralta’s triple, Goldschmidt popped another sacrifice fly to center to score Peralta from third to make the score 3-1.

Chris Owings would smoke his third home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning to keep the offense rolling for Arizona and make the score 4-1.

San Francisco continued to fight back. Robbie Ray made a crucial mistake in the top of the fifth by throwing a wild pitch allowing Joe Panik to score and cut the lead to two.

The Diamondbacks quickly regained the three run lead in the sixth inning. Aaron Hill came up in a big spot, pinch-hitting for Ray with Welington Castillo on base. Hill would slap a double that would score Castillo to make the score 5-2.

As the game moved to the seventh, the Giants needed a big inning and they would deliver just that. Buster Posey would hit a sacrifice fly to score Panik making the score 5-3. Hunter Pence came to the plate with Matt Duffy on base. Pence would deliver a huge two run homer to tie the game at 5.

Neither team would score again until the game moved to extra innings. In the 12th inning, San Francisco loaded the bases with Angel Pagan at the dish.

Pagan grounded a ball to shortstop Cliff Pennington but Pennington would make a sloppy throw over to first resulting in an error allowing Pagan to be safe at first and more importantly, allowing Crawford to score from third base. Arizona would go down without scoring in the bottom of the 12th.

Final Score: Giants 6, D-Backs 5
