The offenses for both teams sputtered in game two of this series thanks to great pitching from Jimmy Nelson and Patrick Corbin.

Nelson was able to shutout the D-Backs for seven innings while walking three and striking out five. The D-Backs had their chances against Nelson and company as they had eight hits, but left a total of seven runners on base.

The Brewers were led offensively by Ryan Braun and Jonathan Lucroy. Braun hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and Lucroy had three of the Brewers’ six hits. Milwaukee’s other run came on a wild pitch by D-Backs reliever Brad Ziegler in the ninth inning.

Patrick Corbin was outstanding in this one, but received no run support. Corbin went seven innings, gave up only four hits, gave up only one run and struck out 10. Those 10 strikeouts tied a career-high for Corbin.

The D-Backs were not able to get anything going offensively, even though they had eight hits. Their one run scored was on a sacrifice fly by Nick Ahmed in the ninth inning.

Despite a valiant effort from Corbin, the D-Backs dropped game two of this series, 2-1.
