The Arizona Diamondbacks (51-53) defeated the Washington Nationals (54-50) by a final score of 6-4 on Monday night in the first game of a four-game set between the two ball clubs.

It was a big win for the Diamondbacks with the team ending their two-game losing streak after dropping the final two games against the Houston Astros over the weekend. Arizona is now 7-2 in their last nine games and are slowly, but surely approaching the .500 mark once more.

The Diamondbacks held a 6-0 lead entering the bottom of the ninth inning when the Nationals had four men cross the plate, but were unable to knot up the score and send the game to extra innings. The loss moved the Nationals out of first place in the National League East as the New York Mets gained sole possession of first place.

Diamondbacks short stop Nick Ahmed stood out mightily as well in the ball game as he smoked a home run and had three additional hits in the winning effort.

David Peralta, Wellington Castillo, and Jake Lamb also homered in the game for the Diamondbacks.

Patrick Corbin and Max Scherzer will take the mound in Tuesday night’s contest between the Diamondbacks and the Nationals.
