Game Three (7:05 ET): Robbie Ray vs. J.A. Happ

Robbie Ray will be responsible for getting the start in the series finale against J.A. Happ. Ray is 3-8 with a 3.29 ERA for the year and just like Anderson, Ray will be making his first career start against the Pirates.

Ray’s overall record does not look great but the main problem has been giving him run support. In his past ten starts, the D-Back offense has only scored five runs once and Arizona has a record of 2-8 in those games. Interestingly enough, Ray went 7 innings and 7 2/3 innings respectively in those two wins as well.

The nine year veteran, J.A. Happ, is 4-7 with a 4.64 ERA on his season. All but one of those decisions came while Happ was still with the Seattle Mariners. The Pirates acquired Happ before the trade deadline and the Illinois native has only pitched one inning in his career against the Diamondbacks.

Happ’s first start with Pittsburgh was against the Cubs. The lefty gave up four runs on nine hits in 4 and 1/3 innings and took the loss. His second start was much better. Happ faced off against the Mets going 5 and 1/3 innings giving up one run on seven hits. Happ got the no decision but Pittsburgh won the game, 3-2.
