From 1915 until the mid-1960’s the University of Arizona used a live bobcat named Rufus Arizona, named after university president Rufus von KleinSmid as their mascot.
In 1959 Wilbur made his first appearance at football games and was a huge hit for the Wildcat fans. Wilbur’s wife Wilma was then brought around in 1986.
The students inside the Wilbur and Wilma costumes are kept a secret until the final home basketball game of the season, just like Butch T. Cougar from Washington State.
