The rookie quarterback out of Winston-Salem State made the training camp roster after a post-draft tryout, but has never looked back. Phillip Sims came into camp as a possible 4th quarterback option, but now looks to complete with Logan Thomas for the third quarterback spot.

While in college Sims played at three different schools, he was a number two quarterback on the Alabama team that won the National Championship in 2011, before transferring to Virginia for the 2012 season. After academic ineligibility he played his final two seasons at Winston-Salem, where he threw for 2,986 yards and 24 touchdowns.

In two preseason games Sims has completed 11 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. He had a very impressive showing in the Cardinals’ game against the Chargers, where he was 8-for-13 with 82 yards. Sims helped the Cardinals tie the game late in the 4th quarter before the Chargers eventually won on a last second field goal.

Look for Sims to get more playing time so the coaches can have a better look at him in a game. He could be on the Cardinals’ practice squad, if not the roster come September.
