Before the 2015 season is officially in the books, the Arizona Diamondbacks (69-77) will hit the road for one final time to face their NL West opponents.
Their 10-day trip begins in San Francisco, where the D-backs face the Giants (77-69). From there, they’ll fly south to Los Angeles to play the first place Dodgers for a four game series beginning on Monday.
Finally, they’ll wrap things up in San Diego to battle the Padres for one last hurrah at Petco Park.
With just 16 games remaining, the battle for the NL West is pretty much in over. The Colorado Rockies have been eliminated, the Padres are one game from elimination and the D-backs are two games away from elimination.
The Dodgers’ magic number is at 10 with the Giants barely clinging on to life. They are 7.5 games out of first place and eight games out of the second Wild Card spot.
At this point, both the Giants and D-backs are playing for pride. Although they aren’t officially out of it yet, things have pretty much been decided.
Despite all of that, it should shape out to be a fun series to watch. The D-backs have found success against the Giants this season. In the 16 games they have played, the D-backs have beaten the Giants nine times.
Last season, the D-backs went 6-13 against the eventual World Champions. Earlier this month, the D-backs took two-of-three from the Giants at Chase Field.
So here we go, the Giants and the D-backs – for one final time this season. Let’s take a look at the pitching match ups for this weekend series…
