On Friday night the Arizona State Sun Devils hosted the first day of the Desert Hockey Classic at Gila River Arena in Glendale. It did not go as planned for the Devils as they fell 4-0, their 10th straight loss against NCAA opponents.

The Arizona State Sun Devils faced the Yale Bulldogs in the second game of the night. The Devils were coming off a 5-2 loss to the UCONN Huskies on Tuesday, and wanted to put up a fight against a great Yale team.

In the first period ASU was able to keep it close, but Yale was able to capitalize on a Sun Devil miscue on defense. Andrew Gaus was able to get a great feed from Chris Izmirlian to put the Bulldogs up 1-0 after one period.

After a close 1st period, Yale was able to separate themselves from the Sun Devils in the 2nd. Goals from Frankie DiChiara and John Hayden had the Bulldogs up 3-0 after two periods. ASU needed a little motivation in the third, but a Yale goal 43 seconds in did not help. Joe Snively found himself alone in the crease and put the Bulldogs up 4-0 early in the third.

The Yale team was the dominate team on the night putting up 41 shots to ASU’s 13. A combination of that, four great goals by the Yale Bulldogs and outstanding goaltending from Alex Lyon, Yale moves on to the championship game Sunday.

The player of the game for the Bulldogs was John Hayden, who had a goal on the night. For the Sun Devils, goalie Ryland Pashovitz, was named player of the game after stopping 37 of 41 shots.

The Sun Devils game was the second game of the night, with the first game featuring the Michigan Tech Huskies against the University of Connecticut Huskies. The Huskies of UCONN opened the scoring off a goal from Patrick Kirtland, with a Michigan Tech answer minutes later from Brent Baltus. MTU never looked back, scoring two goals in less than 10 seconds within the last 30 seconds left in the 2nd period. Michigan Tech held on to win 4-2 advancing to the championship game against the Yale Bulldogs on Sunday.
