The Arizona Coyotes have started to unload their roster on the NHL Trade Deadline by trading Mikkel Boedker to the Colorado Avalanche.

Boedker has scored 13 goals and has 25 assists through 61 games on the 2015-2016 campaign, but will play the remainder of the season with the Avalanche. Boedker is an extremely streaky player with two hat-tricks this season and just seven goals in the other 59 games.

Boedker is an unrestricted free agent after this season and it looks as if the Coyotes were not very confident in their efforts to keep him on the roster for next year.

36-year-old Alex Tanguay is the key part of the returning package from the Avalanche. Tanguay’s contract expires at the end of the season as well, but will provide a great deal of veteran experience on the ice and in the locker room for the rest of the season.

The Coyotes also acquired Avalanche prospect Conner Bleackley. Bleackley was the 23rd overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. Bleackley has seen time as a center and also as a right wing and is a versatile offensive player with the ability to be a decent two-way forward. He turned 20-years-old on February 7th.

The final player that the Coyotes acquired is defenseman Kyle Wood. Wood, 19, was drafted in the 3rd round (84th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft. Wood was a member of the North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League last year and had notched 16 goals and 24 assists in 67 games. Wood has tremendous size at 6’5″, 210-pounds and could definitely be a key defenseman in the long-run for the Coyotes.

This is an important move for the Avalanche who enter February 29th with just a two-point lead for the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference playoff picture.
