Six days and 7 home runs. Truly an unforgettable first week for Trevor Story, the Colorado Rockies’ rookie outfielder that has taken Major League Baseball by storm.

The rookie became the first ballplayer to his seven home runs in his team’s first six games, passing the likes of Larry Walker (1997 ), Mike Schmidt (1976) and Willie Mays 1964). A couple notes on his accomplishments.

  • Story has more HR than 16 MLB teams
  • Four of Story’s seven HR have been over 425 feet
  • His first two HR of his career came against former CY Young Award winner Zack Grienke (1.66 ERA in 2015)
  • The Rockies are the second team to hit 17 HR in their first six games, joining the 2006 Tigers

Let’s praise his accomplishments and enjoy it while it lasts. Baseball is a 162-game season and a player can turn from a hero to a goat (pre-2015 use of the word) in the span of a week. Baseball is a sport defined by consistency, not by hot starts. It will be interesting to see how Story handles the increased pressure. After all, he is a rookie.
