Diamondbacks Snap Six-Game Losing Streak
The Arizona Diamondbacks got back to their winning ways with a 7-2 road victory over the Braves on Friday night behind ace Zack Greinke.
Zack Greinke turned in a quality start on Friday night to help lead his Arizona Diamondbacks past the Atlanta Braves with a 7-2 victory. Greinke went six strong innings, giving up just two earned runs, and striking out eight batters while doing so.
Greinke’s offense was extremely supportive on Friday, getting Greinke a run in the second inning and then adding two more in the third inning following a key error by Braves 3B Reid Brignac. Brandon Drury added another home run in the sixth inning to push the lead to 4-0.
Greinke left the game with a 4-2 lead entering the seventh, but the offense was not done yet. Phil Gosselin added a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth and then Wellington Castillo knocked in two runs with a single in the top of the ninth.
The Diamondbacks bullpen shut down the Braves, which is a very nice sight to see after they gave up 16 runs in 20 innings over the previous six games. Tyler Clippard, Daniel Hudson, and Brad Ziegler combined for three shutout innings, while giving up three hits and striking out three batters. Hudson has been extremely impressive this season, as he lowered his ERA to a 0.66 mark.
At the dish, David Peralta led the way with a 3-for-5 performance and Castillo added two hits of his own. Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 to raise his batting average to a below-average .233 mark. Goldschmidt also stole his second base of the season. Chris Owings went 1-for-2 with two walks.
Drury has picked up the slack of the Diamondbacks lineup over the past three weeks…
"Drury keeps hitting and the D-backs continue to find ways to get him in the lineup. Drury’s home run to lead off the sixth was his sixth in his last 17 games. Drury is hitting .343 over that stretch."
Chip Hale describes his team breaking their slide and snapping the six-game losing streak, “Tonight the guys had some fun, scored some runs and Zack went out there and gave us the start we needed.”
The Atlanta Braves dropped to 7-21 on the season and 1-13 at home.
