The Arizona Diamondbacks snapped their six-game losing streak with a victory on Friday night and would go on to sweep the Atlanta Braves on the road.

The Diamondbacks were in dire need of a turn-around series following back-to-back three-game sweeps to the hands of the Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins and they completed their mission of getting back on track with a sweep of the MLB’s worst team in the Atlanta Braves. The three losses at home for the Braves moved the club to a 1-15 record at home this season.

Arizona came out hot in game one of the series with a 7-2 victory behind a strong performance by Zack Greinke. Greinke went six innings and gave up just two runs, while striking out eight Atlanta hitters. Brandon Drury hit his sixth home run of the season in the contest.

Shelby Miller won his first game in a Diamondbacks uniform in game two of the series, as he too went six innings and gave up just two runs. His performance “lowered” his ERA on the season to 7.36. Tyler Clippard, Daniel Hudson, and Brad Ziegler pitched three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to close the door on the Braves as the Diamondbacks came away with a 4-2 victory.

In the series finale, the Diamondbacks led 3-0 entering the bottom of the 8th inning. The Braves were 0-19 entering the 8th inning while trailing this year, but the Braves found the energy to make it a ballgame as they plated three runners in the frame to tie the game up at 3-3. Chris Herrmann, who homered in the 7th inning, would have none of the tied-game nonsense and hit a two-run bomb in the top of the 11th inning to give the Diamondbacks a 5-3 lead. Ziegler came into the game for the second straight ballgame and notched his seventh save of the season.

Arizona will now turn its focus onto the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies have defeated the Diamondbacks five of the six times the teams have faced one another this season with all six games occurring at Chase Field.
