The Arizona Cardinals failed to gain ground in their NFC West division, as they ended in a 6-6 tie in a strange Sunday affair against the Seattle Seahawks.

In possibly the strangest Sunday Night Football game ever played, the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks finished in a 6-6 tie.

The Cardinals had a chance to upset their NFC West rivals at home, but kicker Chandler Catanzaro missed the game-winning 24-yard field goal that would have given Bruce Arians’ squad a much-needed fourth win of the season.

The Seahawks, now with a chance to win the game, could not capitalize. It had to be an example of some of the worst football ever played, and not just on a Sunday night.

On the ensuing drive, quarterback Russell Wilson marched down the field and got his team in field goal position. A 28-yard kick by Steven Hauschka would have solidified the win, but he too could not come through. The kick went wide right, and the game ended in a tie.

The roller-coaster of emotions the Cardinals and their fans experienced in the last three minutes of the game will linger until next Sunday, as the team missed a golden opportunity to make up ground in the NFC West division.

After getting off to a sluggish 1-3 start, the Cardinals were victorious in their last two contests. A win on Sunday would have reduced the Seahawks’ division lead to just 0.5 games. Instead, the 1.5 lead is what separates both respective teams.

It is certainly not the first time the Cardinals’ have experienced troubles with Catanzaro. In Week One, his 47-yarder that sailed wide left allowed the Tom Brady-less New England Patriots to hang on for a 23-21 win.

In 2015, he struggled with converting extra points. His five botched PAT was third worst in all of football, according to espn.com.

Now seven weeks into the ’16 campaign, the Arizona Cardinals have developed patterns that do not bode well for a third straight playoff appearance. They have been inconsistent; two straight losses against favored match-ups like the Bills and the Rams. They also fail to seize the moment against good teams, like the Pats and the Seahawks.

Pete Carroll’s Seahawks, on the other hand, tell a different story. Heading into Sunday’s game in Phoenix, they were winners in four of their first five contests. If the Arizona Cardinals have any plans of waking up from this unforeseen nightmare they must do it soon, especially as the Seahawks begin to hit their stride.

They will look to do just that on Sunday, as they travel to Charlotte to play the 1-5 Carolina Panthers.
