Even though the Phoenix Suns are off to a rough 3-9 start, Devin Booker’s first career ejection provided some levity in an otherwise depressing season.

Devin Booker is one of the best young superstars in all of basketball.

The Phoenix Suns‘ 20-year old shooting guard burst onto the NBA scene last season as a rookie from the University of Kentucky. In 76 games played, Booker averaged 13.8 points per game and shot 42.3% from the field. He finished in fourth place in the 2016 NBA Rookie of the Year Voting, and was elected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

In 2016, Booker has been just as impressive. He’s averaging 20.5 points per game over 35.3 minutes per game. Booker has started in all of the team’s eleven games.

The Suns lost their third straight game to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, 120-104, bringing their record to an unhappy 3-9.

This team is extremely young, and boasts a lot of future talent in guys like Booker, T.J. Warren, Eric Bledsoe, Dragan Bender, and Marquese Chriss. But still, losing is no fun. Head coach Earl Watson and his squad are probably frustrated. Booker, who is often calm and collected, expressed his frustration on Wednesday night in Denver.

With :17 seconds left in the fourth quarter and facing an eighteen-point deficit, Booker drove to the basket and put up a shot while getting fouled during the process. The shot from inside the paint fell, the foul was called, and he was sent to the free throw line to try and cap off a three-point play.

Booker was given a technical foul earlier in the game after yelling at the officials, and one more technical would have him ejected. While waiting at the free-throw line, the officials gathered and gave Booker a second technical foul. It must have been something he said, because even the second-year guard seemed confused when he was asked to leave the game.

All the Suns could do was laugh at that point in the game, and that’s exactly what Booker did. Before leaving the court, he gave the official who ejected him a thumbs-up, and waved to his teammates on the bench.

It was a classic response, but he didn’t stop there. On his way into the tunnel, Booker paused his walk-of-shame to sign an autograph for a young fan, and fist-bumped another one.
