D-Backs Do Things Big…Always

With all the cool stuff that went down after the alumni game, it’s hard to pin-point the coolest part. I say that because there were just so many of them. One that appeared very unique and newsworthy was the ceremonial first pitch before the game’s actual first pitch. Instead of having, say, Randy Johnson throw out the pitch, the D-Backs tabbed all seven pitchers who made the franchise’s all-time team.

The pitchers who threw the pitch (and honored) go as follows:

Starters: Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, Patrick Corbin, Zack Greinke, Brandon Webb
Relievers: Jose Valverde and Brad Ziegler

Ironically, when the team first announced the all-time team, Ziegler was a member of the Miami Marlins. However, the front office brought him back before the ceremony as one of their trade-deadline reinforcements.

In addition to their spectacular first pitch idea, the gift given to the members of the all-time team was OFFICIAL. This wasn’t some crummy plaque or certificate. No, they gave their legends a real piece of hardware to put on their mantel at home.

This event, as well as their continuous string of killer throwbacks, proved, yet again, that the Arizona Diamondbacks know what’s cool. They spare no expense and go for it every chance they get.
